Tipping etiquette 101

Before choosing a tip, look at the check for a service charge or an included gratuity. If the wording is unclear, ask the restaurant whether that charge goes to the staff.

For table service in the United States, 15% to 20% is a common starting point. Customs vary by place and type of service, so choose an amount that fits the situation.
